The study abroad agency has screwed you.
The Ivy League I was promised, the admission letter said it was Miskatonic University.
QS does not find this school, and there are almost zero discussions. The official website shows that "our school is located in Arkham, Massachusetts, USA. It enjoys an international reputation in cutting-edge fields such as archeology, occultism and comparative mythology. The school's expedition teams have traveled all over the world and have repeatedly made amazing discoveries."
OK. Come all come.
It was only when you landed that you realized something was wrong.
First, the school does not have an international students office. You are greeted by a young man wearing a turtleneck. He introduced himself as Carl, saying he was your senior and a resident of Arkham Town.
Second, dormitories are allocated. You were assigned to the junction of six towns. You opened the window. Except for Arkham Town, there was Black Vortex Town on the left, Castle Rock on the right, Silent Hill in front, and Innsmouth behind. As for the sixth...
"What's the sixth one?" You ask Carl.
Karl glanced at you: "Derry Town. It is recommended that you don't stand by the window for too long."
Third, and most outrageous, there is no takeout in this shitty place.
Because there is no one to deliver them, the residents of Black Vortex will twist their motorcycles into spirals if they give half of them. The residents of Castle Rock will never forget where they are going. The delivery boy in Silent Hill will not be able to get out. Arkham's... Forget it, Arkham has no riders, and the residents of their town will not go out.
You were hungry all day and ended up going out to find something to eat.
Then on the street corner, you meet five overly handsome neighbors.
The first one, a curly-haired mixed-breed, was squatting on the side of the road twisting his bicycle. It has been twisted into a twist.
"What are you doing?"
"It doesn't look pleasing to the eye," he said without raising his head, "it's too straight."
You walk around him.
The second one, the black-haired young man leaning against the wall, said nothing and just looked at you.
There was a thumping sound under his feet.
"Is your phone ringing?"
He didn't answer. The thing under his feet knocked twice again, this time the rhythm changed, as if it was saying hello.
You retreat silently.
…
The fifth one came over I don't know when.
The handsome boy with blond hair and blue eyes handed the takeaway to you: "For Chinese food, this is the only one nearby."
You looked at him and then at the bag in his hand: "... How much is it?"
"No need."
"Why?"
He smiled with blue eyes: "Because you live right across from me."
You were stunned for a moment, and then you remembered that Karl had said that there was also a resident in Delhi town who lived next door to you.
Later you asked Karl: "Are there any normal people in this wretched place like yours?"
He thought for a moment: "No."
Reading Guide
1. Third person of the text
2. Personification of classic horror maps: Black Vortex/Castle Rock/Arkham/Silent Hill/Derry Town/Innsmouth
3. The six residents are the embodiment of the town's will. Each has its own illness, but they all want to be close to the heroine.
