A Port Mafia executive, a courteous, serious, responsible young man: eighteen-year-old Nakahara Chuuya is once again caught up in the daily grind of work, reports, and rescuing his partner.
"What? The little dark midget again. He keeps ruining my suicide plans because he thinks I care about him. What a pain." Dazai Osamu lies drenched by the riverbank, his tone lazy and exasperated.
"You bastard, Dazai! You think I want to look after you?" Nakahara Chuuya explodes. "You suicidal waste of food! You should just go and die already!"
Nakahara Chuuya plants a foot on Dazai Osamu's chest. He hears a muffled groan, and Dazai suddenly spits out a mouthful of blood.
"Hey, you bastard Dazai." Nakahara Chuuya lifts the frail boy from the grass.
"Chuuya, I..." Dazai Osamu's brown eyes are filled with sunset light. His lips curl into a malicious smile. "Just kidding."
With a splash, a flock of startled waterbirds flies across the fiery clouds on the horizon.
