A spoiled heiress x a poor male lead living under someone else's roof
Gu Yijin is the villainess in an old-school Mary Sue campus novel.
The chosen heroine is her gentle, kind-hearted stepsister. The male lead is a poor student in her stepsister's class.
On the first day she transmigrates into the book, the System nervously tells her, "Your task is simple. While the male and female leads are in their will-they-won't-they stage, act as a tool to move the plot along. On top of that, you need to torment the male lead so he grows quickly, then set the stage for a beautiful romance where he chases the heroine and she runs away."
Gu Yijin: "Are you crazy?"
The System fidgets. "But that's what the plot says is supposed to happen."
To retire as soon as possible, Gu Yijin drags the male lead to her side as a gofer and puts him through all kinds of trials and tribulations. From time to time, she even helps her stepsister out, hoping the chosen heroine will soon awaken her kind heart and rescue the male lead from her wicked stepsister.
But her dear stepsister doesn't dare make a move at all.
By the time the college entrance exams are over, the male and female leads are still barely acquainted.
Instead, the aloof, untouchable male lead from the book does whatever she asks, and would gladly follow her around twenty-four hours a day.
Gu Yijin: "Let's destroy this stupid task. I can't do this for another day."
The System ponders it all night, then slaps its thigh and says, "Then let's study abroad. We can leave the stage to them. There are other villainesses at university anyway."
Gu Yijin and the System hit it off immediately. Without another word, she packs her bags and gets out of the country.
In the book, she also goes abroad during college.
But her schemes are exposed, and she flees in disgrace like a stray dog.
Only after the others have built successful careers and her stepsister, as delicate as a little white flower, is framed does the villainous stepsister make another appearance.
When the plot reaches that point, Gu Yijin makes a grand return, ready to help the two leads get together. But she discovers that reality has veered wildly off the book's plot.
The heroine was originally supposed to overcome eighty-one trials alongside the male lead as they built a business from nothing, stunning all the other female characters.
But in reality, the heroine has gone off to become a young idol and is desperately pursuing the male lead, while he's as stubborn and unyielding as a rock, impossible to warm or win over.
Gu Yijin has the male lead tied up and dumped in the heroine's room, planning to force them to consummate their relationship.
But the next moment, the male lead jumps out the window to escape, then turns and stares straight at Gu Yijin, who has been watching the show.
The System trembles. "Host, I think you're done for."
Watching the male lead approach with a dark expression, Gu Yijin can't help but shed a tear for herself. "Be confident. Take out the 'I think.'"
