At the end of the 39th century, disasters struck the world with increasing frequency, and meteor showers battered the Earth. Humanity launched the [Embryo Project]. A total of 13,267 embryo vaults were built around the world in the hope of ensuring humanity's survival.
Over the following centuries, humanity gradually died out. Oxygen levels rose, and living things mutated, reverting to ancestral forms.
When SA207 fell out of its incubation chamber, the corpses of its kind lay all around. A light-brain in the corner spoke, and two messages appeared in SA207's mind.
First: he was an artificial human created to operate the embryo vault, and he had to ensure the embryos survived safely.
Second: there was a beast approaching outside the door.
This was an age after humanity's extinction. Giant plants grew wildly, enormous pterosaurs appeared in the sky, and ferocious shark-whales swam through the seas. Once-glorious cities lay buried beneath the earth, covered in lush green vines and moss.
Fight beasts, build a home, repair and rescue embryo pods, and seek out the remnants of civilization.
The artificial human's footsteps crossed the land and the oceans, recording every wondrous sight that had not disappeared.
When autumn came, domesticated birds and beasts stood guard beside golden rice fields. The young man tightened his fishing net, hauling heavy schools of fish from the pond.
Crossing endless mountains and rivers, SA207 hoisted a bamboo basket and looked up at the brilliant sunset clouds on the horizon. The light-brain on his wrist chimed at just the right moment, its voice low and pleasant.
“Time calibration complete. A meteor shower will pass overhead at nine tonight. SA207, I have planned a route to the best viewing point for you.”
Here, he had to survive alone.
Here, he had to rely on himself to create a new future.
“I want to watch birds skim across the sea, see young animals nestle against their mothers, and watch all things surge toward the horizon. I want to take in every dazzling sight in the world, and taste the happiness and sorrow fate brings.”
“I want to shout to the world that I was here, and reach out to embrace the sun. I want to go with you to Canaan, the garden of abundant life, where milk and honey flow sweetly.”
* A solo farming story set after humanity's extinction, about the last artificial human and the light-brain who depend on each other.
* These are things I want to write about: life, love, and the fate we are born into.
* Calling an artificial human and a light-brain the gong and shou feels strange. But if I have to choose, this story's pairing is light-brain x artificial human.
