Qingqiu was just a palace maid at a temporary palace. She was accidentally caught up in palace intrigue and spent one reckless night with the Crown Prince.
The Empress Dowager intended to have Qingqiu executed.
To save her life, Qingqiu begged the Crown Prince for help, only to hear him say, "How utterly ridiculous!"
*
In Crown Prince Ling Chen's eyes, Qingqiu had originally been just an accident in his life.
Their first meeting began with someone else's scheme.
He kept her only because he craved the tender moments they shared.
It wasn't until Qingqiu disappeared from his side for good that Ling Chen suddenly realized that perhaps he had fallen deeply in love with her from the moment he first caught a fleeting glimpse of her beneath the moonlight. He simply hadn't known it.
*
When they met again, Ling Chen had become a wise ruler presiding over a prosperous age, praised by all.
On a drizzly, lonely night, he stood outside Qingqiu's door.
"If it weren't for you, perhaps none of the things people praise me for would ever have happened."
