Even Immortals Cheat

They say that a virtuous person who has done good deeds for nine lifetimes can enjoy freedom in the underworld. If they commit no sins in their next life, they can become an immortal.

They say that immortals have abolished the ban on marriage. The children of immortals can become immortals too, as long as they pass through the trials of the mortal world.

They say that demons can also become immortals after a thousand years of cultivation, provided they destroy their own powers and endure one trial in the mortal world.

And so, where there's a policy, there's a workaround. Everyone is busy rushing off to become an immortal.

Ming Yue, prince of the First Underworld Hall, has to undergo a romantic trial in the human world if he wants to take charge of the Fifth Hall. To be on the safe side, he seeks out the Rebirth Fruit from the Other Shore, hoping to avoid a trial so tragic that he loses his true nature and ends up worse off than before. Unfortunately, he sees a starving little girl eat the fruit. Unwilling to undergo a romantic trial with a lowly commoner, he alters the Book of Life and Death, arranging for the girl to starve to death once more so he can cheat his way through. But after being reborn as a human, he discovers that nothing is going according to plan...
