Rules for Raising a Brutal Merman

Shen Wugui was caught in a storm at sea. Soaked through, he sprawled across the rocks of a deserted island and came upon a beautiful merman sunning his tail...

Silver hair flowed like a river of stars. His tail fin shimmered with an eerie blue phosphorescence. The merman narrowed his golden, slit-pupil eyes at him, a threatening growl rumbling in his throat.

Shen Wugui fell for him at first sight and wanted to spend the rest of his life with the merman.

So, no matter how hostile the merman was, Shen Wugui cheerfully picked fruit every day and brought it to him.

Day one: The merman's sharp teeth sliced the back of his hand.

Shen Wugui's eyes lit up. "Those fangs are so shiny! I want to touch them!"

Day three: The merman lashed his tail and smashed the rocks. Flying shards grazed Shen Wugui's ear.

Shen Wugui stared at the taut muscles along the merman's tail and backside, then suddenly covered his burning face. "So that's what his muscles look like when he flexes his tail... So sexy!"

Day five: The merman grabbed him by the throat and pushed him into the shallows. Shen Wugui's heart raced as he mumbled, "This is so thrilling. I want to kiss him..."

Merman: ?

Gradually, the merman's initial hostility gave way to curling his tail fin around Shen Wugui as they basked in the moonlight. He even sang him a mysterious, ethereal merman song.

Shen Wugui: Bliss.

Until one day...

The merman spun, tearing a school of sharks to pieces, his lean waist flexing in a deadly arc.

At last, he dragged a shark ashore and forcibly branded its bloodied scales into Shen Wugui's shoulder.

"Your kind use rings to propose... We use wounds," the merman whispered.

"That way, my scent will always be in your blood."

Shen Wugui trembled. Wouldn't that cost him his life?

He fled in the middle of the night, only to hear the hunters' song of the merfolk echo across the entire deserted island.
