The Beloved Little Fox Spirit [Nineties]

Yue Laosan didn't want to raise Qiao Mai anymore. He said she brought bad luck to her parents and grandparents, and had even scared away the little brother who hadn't been born yet. He dumped her at the village committee office and left her there.

The day the kind Yang couple adopted her, little Qiao Mai stood in their courtyard, her chubby hands on her hips. She pointed at Yue Laosan and his family, chin tilted up. "I'll show you what a good life looks like!"

As it turned out, Qiao Mai was right. The Yangs doted on her, and all sorts of good fortune came their way. Their lives grew brighter by the day.

The villagers all said the Yangs had picked up a little goddess of fortune. Only Yue Laosan, holding his newborn son, scoffed. "Good thing she left. Otherwise, the Yue family line would have died out..."

But in just a few years, the Yangs became a ten-thousand-yuan household. They moved from the village to town, then to the city... Each house was bigger than the last, and every car more luxurious...

The Yue family turned green with envy and shamelessly came begging to claim her as family. Her third aunt, who had called her a jinx, began smacking herself across the face. Her eldest sister, who had eaten her candy, bought her several jars of sweets. Her second sister, who had stolen her clothes, took them off and returned them...

Qiao Mai flashed a toothy smile. "Seeing how poor you are makes me feel so much better!"

The female lead is based on a little fox spirit, born with a lucky koi fate and a golden finger.
