[The Invisible Guardian] Markov Decision

Morikawa Hideaki, a master's graduate in electronic information science from Tokyo Imperial University.

A friend and classmate of Junko Muto, daughter of the Japanese consul in China.

In 1939, after a conflict with a colleague, he was transferred from the Japanese Central China Expeditionary Army's 116th Division and sent to the Shanghai Consulate to serve as acting counselor.

At the New Year's press conference hosted by Junko's father, he met for the first time a reporter from the Yahui Daily named Xiao Tu.

I decided to write this story when the man codenamed [Number Two], the handler of Xiao Tu and Fang Min, used a Markov chain to explain undercover work and reputation. To be more precise, undercover agents on the Far Eastern battlefield deal not only with Monte Carlo, but also with POMDPs. The story of Morikawa Hideaki (and Xiao Tu) might be described as a partially observable Markov decision process.

The protagonist is neither a character from the original work nor someone from an ordinary era. It leans toward a coolly detached espionage story in the SI (Self-Inserted & School of Information) vein.

A baseline test, in homage to Blade Runner 2049. Consul Muto's Number Two, Republic of China-era gin.
