Meng Xuehui unexpectedly dies, and when he opens his eyes again, he's become one of the ordinary folk in the Republic of China era.

At the Jinhui Daily, every reporter is a real wordsmith with a fine pair of leather shoes, except for him, the bottom-of-the-class editorial assistant who struggles to write a single story.

Whenever these fine fellows head out on assignment, they raise old newspapers in both hands and bow three times to honor the legendary industry titan who uses his pen in place of others, praying for good fortune.

But nobody ever imagined that the legendary titan and the unlucky guy next door, who'd been demoted and had his pay docked, were actually the same person.

Now assigned to write gossip for the entertainment section, Meng Xuehui secretly uses the office phone to give his man a heads-up. "Hey, Mr. Qin, the article I'm working on specifically says I have to start a rumor linking you with the newcomer. Help me out in an emergency. My bonus next month depends on you."

*A reporter shou who plays the pig to eat the tiger x a resourceful movie star gong who can handle any situation

★ A little scene:

One day, a young reporter picks up a movie poster outside a cinema and takes it home. He uses it to level a table, prop up a stool, and wrap his books. It's excellent quality.

When Qin Mubai visits his humble abode, he sees his own poster hanging under the eaves, keeping dust off the cured meat. He flicks the brim of Meng Xuehui's baseball cap with a finger. "Useful?"

Meng Xuehui's brain short-circuits, and he blurts out, "Not as useful as the real thing."

Without a word, Qin Mubai takes off his gold-rimmed glasses, draws the curtains, and starts unbuttoning his shirt. Faced with such a ravishing sight, Meng Xuehui instinctively covers his nose and looks for cotton to stop the bleeding.

*This is an alternate history setting, so please don't take it as fact or nitpick the details. It has no connection to real people or events. Any resemblance in names or places is purely coincidental.
