Synopsis

"One is a celestial flower in the fairyland, the other a flawless piece of jade. If they were not fated, why would they have met in this life? If they were fated, why did their hopes end in vain? One sighs in vain, the other yearns in vain. One is the moon reflected in water, the other a flower in the mirror. How many tears can one's eyes hold? How could they withstand the flow from autumn through winter, and spring through summer?"

"A Lament in Vain"

In short, this is a story about Jiangzhu the Immortal Herb whisking away the Divine Attendant Shenying, only for the Fairy Jinghuan to notice something was amiss and summon Jiangzhu back. But she then discovers that the two had already been secretly carrying on behind her back.

Pairing: Xue Baochai / Lin Daiyu

Theme: When the flower blooms, the leaf is gone; when the leaf grows, the flower is gone. Flower and leaf never meet, yet cherish and yearn for each other forever, only to be forever apart.
