After Pretending with My Archrival Turns Real

In the twelfth year of the Jianyuan era, Shao Suxue had three regrets. His first was ignoring his mentor's warning not to pursue a career in both the military and the court. He passed the imperial exams and from then on, he and his teacher were estranged. His second was his mission to the southern tribes, where he persuaded the Yi people to launch a night raid on Lanzhou, setting off a great war among the five kingdoms. But his greatest regret was getting involved with Ji Yan, that madman. He would cheerfully cut off the heads of Shao Suxue's trusted aides. On a snowy night, he kissed him as snowflakes fell, biting and sucking at the pale lips of the man in his arms, nearly frantic with anger at his blood loss. Then he whispered, “If you die, tomorrow I'll bang gongs and drums and announce to the whole world that I'm the hidden wife in Lord Shao's household. Let's see where you put your face then.” By then, Shao Suxue's consciousness was fading. He had time for only one thought: Sneaking over someone's wall in the dead of night, climbing into their bed, and making a huge racket is nothing to be proud of, either, is it?
