Marrying Again

March 7, 2025: Young writing, completely rewritten.

Updates may be frequent lately. Please bear with me, dear readers. If you're interested, why not join me in rereading the new version? I hope you enjoy it.

The Lin family's daughter was renowned throughout the capital. Everyone thought her talent and beauty would win her a perfect marriage, but Lin Lan gave up the admiration of all the capital's eligible bachelors and suddenly accepted the emperor's matchmaking, marrying a lowborn frontier soldier who had betrayed his former master to curry favor with her. She followed him back to a poor, remote corner of the land.

Lin Lan knew from the start that her husband was no suitable match. He was not the man she had her eye on, either.

At the far-flung frontier, with the world at her feet, the capital's noblewomen were still competing over whose skirts were finer and whose husbands enjoyed the emperor's favor. Meanwhile, Lin Lan's palms had already grown thick calluses from handling a bow. At last, she no longer had to be a proper, rule-abiding young lady, and the northern defense plans she had gained through marriage were a welcome bonus.

It turned out that treating marriage as a bargaining chip could bring such a rich reward.

If she could marry once to change her fate, then why not marry again to consolidate the power she had already secured?

Reader's guide:

1. The career plot is the focus, with romance as a supporting thread. The romantic plot includes, but is not limited to, the two marriages, before and after.

2. The heroine won't make herself suffer. Anyone who gets in the way of her career is her enemy, and she'll clear any obstacles to consolidate her power.

3. This story may not suit readers who love child-rearing plots. I've never had a child, and if I insisted on writing one, it might turn into a cringey story like My Genius Baby Is an Invincible Mom.

4. The heroine grows over time and has weaknesses and flaws. I hope readers will be patient with her as she develops. There may be geniuses and perfect people in this world, but my heroine won't be one of them.

Theme: Life is full of hardship. You and I will weather it together.
