[A more formal blurb]
Isa Buerjada
The last necromancer
Her father shaped her flesh and blood.
Her mother forged her soul.
She is the masterpiece of two mad people,
a paradox between existence and nonexistence,
one of the proofs of the world's ultimate mysteries,
a rose of the dead that bloomed only after wilting.
[A slightly lighter blurb]
The living are outside a necromancer's scope of service, but a necromancer is still alive.
To pursue greater power and fulfill her promise to the dead, Isa Buerjada must complete a commission that may change the entire continent of Olianda, alongside her living “companions.”
Before the party forms:
“I don't listen to the living pour their hearts out. If you die, I might be more willing to hear what you have to say.”
Early days as a party:
“Isa, even you have to admit that the few of us are still stronger than the dead.”
“True. But it would be even better if you listened as well as the dead do.”
Later on:
“Having teammates is a lot more useful than having dead people's brains!”
In an age when necromancy had not yet become taboo, spirits who could glimpse the future once foretold the fate of the ancient Gublei Dynasty to humanity:
“Crowned sons will tear apart their bloodline. The most glorious family ever to grace the continent of Olianda will split in two, and the two halves will never reunite.”
When the prophecy came to pass, the age of the dead had been over for centuries. Only sealed parchment scrolls and Isa Buerjada, who had read those forbidden spells, knew that it had come true.
But on that night, when dawn came late, in an ancient temple where dark knowledge lay buried, a spirit returned to the world of the living and spoke another prophecy to the girl who had summoned it:
“The glorious knight will die betrayed, the holy priest will be slandered, and the proud shaman will become a slave to love. And you... your fate is more complicated and harder to predict than the kingdom beneath your feet. Death blurs the boundary between you and the future. All I can see is nothingness. But there is one thing I know for certain: you are flesh and blood. You can love, and you can die. Your eyes can still shed tears, but they are destined to spill only blood.”
“This is a prophecy, not an answer.” Isa was unmoved by love and death, blood and tears. “It seems I'll have to find it myself.”
[Reader's Guide]
An original Western fantasy setting, with no real-life character models or claims of realism. Pure wish fulfillment.
Some parts of the setting draw a little inspiration from Western history and geography.
A Western fantasy story set in an age of swords and magic. Its rules and morals differ somewhat from those of the real world, so please don't apply them to reality.
The heroine is my beloved, so she'll stay impossibly cool and powerful throughout the whole story. It's not pure wish fulfillment, though I do think there's a little of that, too.
There is romance, and the heroine has a love interest, but romance isn't the focus. The story leans more toward the adventure tales common in Western fantasy.
I'll add more if I think of anything.
Theme: Challenge myself and try to break new ground with a new genre.
