Yang Fire Lantern

Everyone has three yang-fire lamps. Each lamp represents thirty years. On a dark night, eerie whispers brush past your ears, warning you not to turn around at midnight. When you walk alone, your shoulders grow heavy. Once the lamps go out, a horde of ghosts will pounce.

According to folk legend, everyone is born with three bright lamps invisible to the naked eye: one atop the head, and one on each shoulder. These are a person's yang fire, and each lamp represents about thirty years of life. Gu Liangwei had already lost one of the yang-fire lamps on her shoulders, and the other was flickering on the verge of going out, so she could live at most half a lifetime. When she shoved Yuezhou, the last lamp on her shoulder went out completely, leaving only the one atop her head. At twenty-six, Gu Liangwei had at most five years left to live. To her, living five more years or fifty more years made little difference. Everyone dies, and she had come to terms with that. What she hadn't expected was for Yuezhou to be the bane of her existence, unwilling to spare even the last five years she had.
