In oracle bone script, a wu is someone who communicates with the spirits of heaven and earth. They are all women.
During the matrilineal clan era, the priestesses held the right to preside over sacrifices and stood above all others.
Si, the leader and shaman of the Nuchou kingdom, offered herself in sacrifice to pray for rain. When she awoke, she found that thousands of years had passed and the world had become one where men held power over women. Her former allies and enemies had all become figures of myth: the High Priestess Ximu had become the Queen Mother of the West, and had even been given a husband, the King Father of the East; the former chieftain Yanci had become the Nine Heavens Dark Maiden, worshipped by the people. It turned out that by the Han dynasty, shamanism had fallen into decline. Emperor Gaozu of Han established Jin shamans, Qin shamans, Nine Heavens shamans, Nanshan shamans, and others in the cities to protect the four corners of the realm. When the Han dynasty fell, ancient shamanic arts crumbled and declined with it. Women lost their power, blended into folk society, and became low-ranking spirit mediums.

Her later-generation disciples could only draw talismans, painting the star Tianyi, the sun and moon, the Jade Maiden, and the three corpse worms on yellow paper to ward off misfortune.

She brought out many kinds of shamanic rites for seeking blessings, including the rites of release, interrogation, suppression, prohibition, and warding off evil, and reshaped the world.
Fate has its chosen one.
I refuse to believe it.
(I haven't decided yet which era the shaman will awaken in: ancient times, the interstellar age, or quick transmigration. Still undecided.)
