The First Koi of the Immortal Path

Yu Xian is a koi from Jinjiang. Blessed with good fortune from childhood, he has always had incredible luck. He spends his days lazing around, and somehow his cultivation keeps soaring until he is just a step away from ascension.

Yu Xian: "I'm not ascending. Too much effort."

Who would have thought that one day he would lose his front fins? Yu Xian got drunk and accidentally stranded himself on the riverbank, where a Taoist priest found him and took him back to his temple. Just like that, he went from a "river fish" to a "fish in a tank."

Yu Xian thought: Having someone feed me and incense offerings to enjoy, this life isn't so bad.

But the Taoist priest wouldn't let him live out his fishy days in peace. Every few days, he would come poke at the tank:

"Jinzhou is suffering a severe drought. I hope you'll help bring some rain."

Yu Xian rolled belly-up. "Don't ask me. I'm already a salted fish."

"A family in the south of the city has been plagued by bad luck. I hope you'll go perform a ritual for them."

Yu Xian flicked his tail. "Don't ask me. I'm already a useless fish."

"The temple needs repairs and renovations. I hope..."

Yu Xian stared with his dead-fish eyes. "Don't ask me. I'm already a dead fish."

Who would have thought that months later, when the temple was in danger, the veteran slacker would suddenly step forward, defeating all foes with a single sword stroke and leaving heaven and earth pale.

Xuan Jing watched as someone returned against the light, red robes stained with blood, standing tall in the wind... though a few fish scales had flown off.

Yu Xian lazily sheathed his sword and said nonchalantly, "It was the least I could do. No need to mention it."

Xuan Jing: "I thought you were a salted fish?"

Yu Xian blinked. "A kiss from Senior Brother makes me less salty."
