Two wooden hairpins hold back her thick black hair. She wears a qipao with wide sleeves. While other rich young ladies travel the world or attend art exhibitions and fashion shows, she prefers to linger in Suzhou and Hangzhou.

She is the odd one out among the social elite.

Her longing gaze sweeps across green hills and clear waters, past one garden after another. She always feels she is searching for something, yet in over twenty years, she has found nothing.

Lately, she keeps dreaming of a refined young gentleman holding a book. She doesn't pay attention to her studies, and he smiles helplessly, gently tapping her head with the book. "Not paying attention again."

One day, she walks gracefully down an old alley, raindrops pattering against her oil-paper umbrella. She looks up without thinking and meets the gaze of a man not far away, a suit draped over his arm.

Their gazes linger for an eternity.

For some inexplicable reason, she holds her umbrella over him.

"Sir, have we met before?"

He had been leading his employees on a team-building outing when a phone call inexplicably led him into this little alley.

And there, he came across a gentle, beautiful woman.

The man pushes up his glasses and laughs. "Miss, you're so beautiful that if we'd met before, I would surely remember you."

Still... there is something strangely familiar about her.

He is a rising star in their social circle, while she is the aloof beauty people talk about.

At a banquet, he sees her graceful figure in a qipao, tilting her head back with a smile as she drinks her red wine.

"Now I can answer you.

"We met in that old alley not long ago."

She laughs softly. "Then why don't we become friends?"
