Blurb:
Erlang Shen accidentally stumbles into another dimension and arrives in a world that feels both familiar and strange.
The Jade Emperor here isn’t his uncle. There’s only one Dragon King of the Four Seas. There is no Queen Mother of the West, only a Queen Mother of the West who governs all the female immortals. There is no Buddha, nor is there a Hall of Yama...
The system of the Three Realms here is completely different from the one he knows. The one thing he can be grateful for is that the Yang Jian here is still called Yang Jian, and still bears the title True Lord Qingyuan Miaodao. But he has no Xiaotian Dog, no home in Guanjiangkou, and none of his brothers from Mount Mei.
However...
He has been given a very important mission: save the Dragon King!
This story is also known as 101 Ways to Save the Dragon King. Main pairing: Erlang Shen x Yinglong, the Dragon King.
Reader’s Guide:
1. The mythological setting is an alternate world built on the framework of the Classic of Mountains and Seas. Many details differ from traditional mythology, and some elements are drawn from the Primordial Chaos mythology system. Please don’t scrutinize it as strict scholarship.
2. Mythological dynasties in history include Xia, Shang, and Zhou. In this alternate world, the main dynastic succession is my own invention: Great Zhou, Qixia, and Lishang. The characters and dynasties are only loosely inspired by their counterparts. There is no Investiture of the Gods war, so please don’t use it as a point of comparison.
3. Some mythological characters are based on figures from the classic Ming-era fantasy novels Investiture of the Gods and Journey to the West, the religious scripture The Scroll of Erlang, the ancient text Classic of Mountains and Seas, and various legends about dragons passed down in historical records.
4. Since most current archaeological research suggests that many of the negative stories about King Zhou of Shang in Investiture of the Gods may have been invented by later generations, the character of King Zhou in this story is based on Jie, the last ruler of the Xia dynasty. He is still called King Zhou, but he is not the historical Di Xin. I’m clarifying this so readers who love the Shang dynasty won’t be troubled and leave comments about it.
Note: I love myths about Erlang Shen, and I also love myths about the Dragon Kings. This far-fetched crossover pairing came about because I love these two mythological figures. Since this is fanfiction, some people will like it and some won’t. Let’s agree to disagree. I hope to make friends through this story and find fellow fans of this pairing.
Theme: Chinese culture is vast and profound, and Eastern mythology is one of its brightest treasures!
