I Should Have Held You Close Back Then

Back then, Jiang Yu was the first among her peers to get married.

An old friend she'd barely spoken to in ages suddenly sent her news about a wife accidentally killed by her abusive husband, and listed examples of mama's boys who couldn't resolve family conflicts, saying that marrying into a wealthy family would surely mean being mistreated.

None of those things ever happened to her, but she still ended up getting divorced.

On the night before the divorce, in the dead of night, Xi Moren stood alone beneath the streetlight outside her home, wearing a black coat.

Seeing his lonely, upright silhouette, Jiang Yu recalled the few times she'd seen someone off. This time, he walked toward her, brushed his rough thumb across the corner of her eye, and said in a low, hoarse voice, "Jiang Yu, I can't forget you."
