June 29, 2008: Completed the second revision of The Tale of Menjing.
Annotated by Qiu Chuan: This is the second of the Three Tales of Xuanji, The Tale of Menjing, a treatise on observing the world. The author regarded it as a treatise on creating the world, but it is in fact a theory of describing and observing the world. Legend has it that the ancestors of the Xi He clan copied many ancient spirit writings from a world transformed from the Great White Camellia. The Heavenly Emperor learned of the world among the clouds through this theory, which led to his campaign to conquer the heavens. The tale is written in a plain, unadorned style, yet it is the treasured centerpiece of the Xi He clan's Longliu Pavilion.
