[Saiouma] Survivor Bias

[Blurb]

People should learn to look beyond appearances and observe the essence of things.

And before reaching a conclusion, they should consider not only the outcome, but also the process.

Those who survive a game of mutual slaughter are not necessarily the smartest or strongest people.

Standing before a gravestone and admiring the flowers doesn't necessarily mean I miss the deceased.

[Note]

A very short story based on the original, set after the ending of the game Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony. Contains major spoilers, so anyone who hasn't finished the game should read with caution.

This story is based on the 2018 Chongqing Gaokao essay prompt, National Paper II. The prompt was as follows:

"During World War II, to improve the protection of fighter planes, the British and American militaries studied the bullet holes on planes that returned from combat. They decided to reinforce the areas with the most bullet holes. However, the statistician Wald argued against this, pointing out that they should pay more attention to areas with few bullet holes. Planes hit hard in those areas were unlikely to make it back, so that data was being overlooked. As it turned out, Wald was right.
