Once they're on shore, He Chuan throws his arms around the dispirited Su Mu and cries his heart out. "Little Wooden, don't die! What will I do if you die?"

Just catching his breath, Su Mu nearly gets so angry he passes out again. "You jinx... Can't you say something nice?"

Twenty-six years old.

In the hospital room, Su Mu lies on the bed with his eyes closed. Outside, He Chuan leans against the wall, not daring to look at him.

Su Mu, if you wake up, I'll become a vegetarian, pray to Buddha, and never smoke or drink again.

With an unlit cigarette between his lips, He Chuan's eyes burn with pain, but no tears come. "If you wake up, I'll stop being difficult with you. Just wake up..."
