"Life is like a journey against the current; I, too, am a traveler."
When we're young, we're bold enough to risk everything, often not because our love runs deep, but because we're fearless and don't know any better. By middle age, even if we escape becoming jaded, we can't escape selfishness and exhaustion. Halfway down the road, we look ahead and behind, and see nothing but uncertainty.
Love, companionship, understanding, acceptance: we try to grasp every grain of sand slipping through our fingers. But we ourselves are no more than specks of dust in this vast world.
Life has no purpose and no final destination. Love isn't anyone's lifeline; it's simply a beam of light. In its glow, we see each other clearly and choose whether or not to accept the truth.
Perhaps the journey itself is what gives travel meaning.
I owe the creation of this story to two people in particular. I promised to thank them when I began posting, so here goes.
Qiang Tou Ma Shang. Years ago, you told me that when writing, if you can use one word less, never use one more. In the years I didn't write, I kept those words with me. I know I haven't managed to live up to them yet, but thank you for teaching me how to treat the things I hold dear.
Cheng Feng Gui Qu. Thank you for being the reason I picked up my pen again after such a long time. What is missed and remembered will surely echo back.
I'm working on a new story. I'll post it once I've written the opening. That's all for now. Until we meet again.
Theme:
Suddenly I realized that my love for "Pedestrian" may actually be about the life path that Tao Ran and Chang Zheng have traveled and the magnanimity they have cultivated. I am anxiously longing for the aging of the years. Whether it is the openness of "the light clouds and the faint moon, life is traveling against the odds" or the heaviness of "halfway through the journey, neither end is visible", they all make me, who has not experienced much in the world, endlessly longing for and imagining. So when I became more and more stuck in reality and unable to make any progress, I thought about "Pedestrian" more and more crazily, trying to get comfort and relieve my anxiety in the process of chewing any fragments.
"At that moment, Tao Ran vaguely saw the playful smile of time." This was Tao Ran's reconciliation with the world - he caught the hidden warmth in the wind and frost sword of time. He learned to look back at the past calmly and look at the future leisurely with a gentle gaze filled with love for life.
Thank you Wan Chuan for such a good story. After reading this, I feel that I will not be able to read new novels for a long time.
Thanks to my wife for bringing us such a good work and telling us the story of Tao Ran and Chang Zheng. Life is like a journey against the odds, and I am also a traveler. I hope that everyone can find their own way and meet someone who can empathize with you and have a tacit understanding.
(2) Chance has no place in tragedy 1) Scene setting Assuming that the timeline of "Pedestrian" is parallel to the real world, and going back about ten to fifteen years, it is probably the time when people born in the 85s to 90s went through the college entrance examination. A small town in an inland province from the late 1990s to the beginning of this century was Wu Guizhou's birthplace, Novice Village, and it was also a map for players who left and returned. Tell me loudly, what was the first opportunity for the fathers of the group of people represented by Wu Guizhou, corresponding to the group of people born from the 1950s to the 1970s, to come into contact with the concept of homosexuality within society for the first time? ——It's "Brokeback Mountain" directed by Ang Lee in 2005! Of course, according to the communication between Teacher Wan and me during the writing process, this has nothing to do with the time setting of this article and the fate of the characters. When I was thinking about non-mainstream social issues, Teacher Wan was obviously paying tribute to the radiance of hope. However, even if another fifty years pass, the spring breeze of reform blows all over the country, turning the willow banks green and bald, Wu Guizhou's environment at that time will not be better than that of the protagonists of "Broken". From the POV perspectives of Chang Zheng, "He was born in this cage, and he wore all his flesh and blood before he walked out" and Wu Yueyin, "She was satisfied once she passed the exam, and the following holidays came and went in a hurry. The outside world is far more attractive than the lifeless atmosphere here." It is easy to get a picture of a depressing, dull, and closed collective environment. And the campus happens to be a small container filled with mud in a closed environment, squeezing and devouring the survivors struggling in it. There are many classic works that tell how in a closed environment, the evil of human nature is born and grows to the extreme, destroying everything of innocent individuals in an instant. From the unexplored details, I can easily imagine the scenes with explicit eyes, unabashed snickers, taunts, and pointing. This kind of malice is different from the school violence in "The Crack" and the crowd-pleaser in "The Hunt". ?? If someone hadn't done it deliberately, Wu Guizhou could have easily followed the same path as Chang Zheng. If you cannot change the environment itself, you should try your best to survive in desperate situations. But as Wu Yueyin said, Wu Guizhou was "too emotional." 2) Role attributes Sometimes I really hope that Wu Guizhou, as an excellent PVE player in the early stage, can combine the hot temper of PVP players who are willing to do anything when they see a famous name, and will not be cowarded, and the awesome 1vN skills. When necessary, he should be an emotionless killer. It's a pity that Wu Guizhou is not a lone hero despite the death of millions of people. It's a pity that he, a literary young man who loves piano, has to fight against the evil of the world alone. Not only is it literary and artistic, but it is also too rigid and easy to break. Although Wu Guizhou failed to seize the good opportunity at the college entrance examination, an important turning point in his life trajectory, in my opinion, it is not without hope. There is no specific description of Chang Zheng's educational background in the article, but judging from the various settings in the article, it is nothing more than the first four schools. Chang Zheng wrote in his diary, "I understand the feeling that others think you are good, but you feel you would be better off dead." I think this is the reluctance and grief that most children who have ever been outstanding have experienced to some extent. Ten years ago, I would probably have thought that failure in the college entrance examination would be worse than death. Now I only think that if I fail to pass the college entrance examination and resume diplomatic relations in Beiqing/can't earn an annual salary of one million, am I going to have a hard time? Are the top students in school necessarily successful people in the secular sense in the future? Then again. Wu Guizhou had two turning points. One was to take the postgraduate entrance examination, and the other was to live and struggle with Chang Zheng. In the former case, Wu Guizhou's giving up was reasonable. The latter was the reason why he completely deviated from the upward trajectory and failed to achieve a perfect clearance. Of course there is the above-mentioned "good boy" self-esteem, which makes Wu Guizhou unable to accept the reality gap, so he takes a different approach and breaks up with Chang Zheng directly. Another reason is the "too much emotion" mentioned in 1). When "Pedestrian" was being serialized, during the discussion, I often felt that Boss Chang seemed cold and cold at times, and he should try his best to get some help from his teammates. It wasn't until I re-read it after finishing it that I had to admit that only what I thought was the so-called "cool" could carve out a bloody path in Vicious Town. There is a cool-sounding word in English called "emotionally detached". Wu Guizhou is obviously much too attached. This is his warm and shining side, but also his fatal weakness when the environment turns bad. Therefore, Wu Yueyin broke free from the shackles of his native family, Chang Zheng was able to escape the Forbidden Island, but Wu Guizhou could not. If he could go one step further, his sense of gap and self-esteem would not be obstacles that would hinder him from standing side by side with Chang Zheng. But even so, even if as a reader I feel sorry for it again and again, I still can't convince myself that this choice must be the best solution for everyone. The family responsibilities, ethics, and emotional burdens involved are all complicated. No matter what you choose, you have to pay an extremely heavy price. Wu Guizhou is not a utilitarian who puts utility above all else. If he were, he would probably be able to make the choice of "since something must be sacrificed no matter what, then make the sacrifice valuable." This paragraph is probably the most controversial part of my list of views. Considering that this is not a focus interview or a Harvard open class, this part will not be expanded upon. 3) Ranked teammates In the original plan. There should also be a part about the original family. But after writing 2), I felt uninterested. So the last bit of space is reserved for the male protagonist Boss Chang who is the mirror image of Wu Guizhou in my mind. I once imagined what would happen if the places were swapped and the scandalous male protagonist was Chang Zheng? The amazing thing is that I always have an inexplicable trust in Boss Chang in my heart. I feel that even if he has only a trace of blood left, he can turn the tables with just one mouthful of milk. The reason is that, in today's common terms, Boss Chang is a werewolf in some respects, a bit ruthless. He is also such a ruthless person, raising a dog that reminds him of his sad past all the time. It must be hard to look back on the past when you can't bear to look back on it, but you still have to remember it again and again so that you can't forget and forgive. Therefore, Chang Zheng's character theme is "self-reconciliation." In my opinion, in addition to Tao Ran's progress and growth, the other half of this article should be dedicated to how Boss Chang said goodbye to the past because of a precious encounter and truly gained (which sounds very disgusting) "inner peace." Here, I must reiterate a digression. Although Teacher Wan insists, in fact, the ending of "Pedestrian" also confirms that no man is an island. Returning to Wu Guizhou, the time when he lived with Chang Zheng was obviously the most stalemate between him and himself. Once a person gets into trouble, he can become paranoid and deny all his relatives. Wu Guizhou's self-esteem is so high that his words to hurt others will lead to bloodshed and hit the vital point directly. The closer the relationship, the more likely they are to hurt each other. Even if Chang Zheng was mentally prepared and so considerate of Wu Guizhou's state of mind, he was still bruised all over. Boss Chang is just an ordinary person who needs time and the right opportunity to heal himself, so when I read it for the second time, I fully understood his overwhelming feelings and inner trauma. It is too difficult for Chang Zheng to ask him to tolerate more. Although Chang Zheng's diary uses "endgame" to describe their reunion, it actually means that in the minds of at least one of them, the relationship is almost over. But I still feel sad that they failed to turn this turning point into life in their subsequent relationship. At the end, Chang Zheng confessed, "It is always a regret in my heart that I did not share the burden with you," and "I never meant to look down on you as you later thought." He replied to Wu Guizhou, "You are right, and so am I. It's just that everyone has his own destiny." I think Chang Zheng would not be so straightforward in order to take into account Wu Guizhou's feelings, or even bother to explain it, and Wu Guizhou would not sit down calmly and communicate with Chang Zheng calmly, try to solve the current situation, and make long-term plans, but just struggle with brute force in the difficult situation. This is actually an immature side of both parties dealing with emotions. Fortunately, Chang Zheng met Tao Ran later, but luck may not favor every ordinary person. The length of Wu Guizhou in "Pedestrian" is less than one-twentieth of a word, but picking out and re-reading these more than 10,000 words still makes me extremely sad, so I have stopped mentioning many places and do not want to go into detail. As a reader, I have a God's perspective, and I seem to be able to overlook and guide all living beings. But in fact, the sad thing is that every time I think about such a situation, as an ordinary person, I still feel that it is easier said than done. ??? Finally, I want to make a solemn statement to Teacher Wan that He Xunyan is a good boy. Please don't let his unrequited love hang in the balance. This is wrong!
My wife should love Guizhou more and give him a way to learn on his own. Even if we can't be together, he can still live his own wonderful life and not be stuck there and feel depressed.
I really like the relationship between mature men. I don't know how many times it's been done
After reading it, I was really emotional and I don't know what to say. It's like I've walked with them through a period of life I'm so lucky to see such an article, thank you author There is a long way to go, but we are destined to meet again
Preface Taking a closer look at the discussion topics when "Pedestrian" was still being serialized, the most popular one besides No. 1 Boss Chang was Wu Guizhou (Boss Chang contributed 111 chat records, Wu Guizhou 100, and both parties appeared several times in each other's records). The topic was far more popular than the other male protagonist Tao Ran. In the words of a reader sister in the group, this is a character worthy of a sequel. To me, it's a character worthy of a small essay. So nearly half a year after finishing Pedestrian, I came to hand in my homework. Since the story of this character is too heavy, in order to prevent me from getting depressed during the writing process and affecting the final completion, I will try to introduce the analysis of the character, his personality and experiences in a relatively relaxed way at the beginning of the review. If the verbal expression makes people feel frivolous, let me explain in advance that this does not mean that I use a scornful and mocking attitude to interpret the various aspects of this character. On the contrary, the title is "The Tragedy of Ordinary People", which means that I feel that we should face the suffering of all living beings and be in awe of the fate of ordinary people and the resulting tragedies. I feel ashamed that I don't have any literary criticism skills, and my thinking limitations do not allow me to construct a complex and clear review logic. Therefore, unlike the general systematic model of "finding problems → raising problems → solving problems", I can probably only complete the short paper by mixing the following points: "discussing possible optimal solutions", "the significance of Wu Guizhou as a certain type" and "the internal and external reasons that caused the tragedy of his life". As for why I don't strictly follow the above general model, firstly, my ability is limited, and I cannot objectively draw conclusions on some issues; secondly, I am unwilling to actually write the review into an academic paper, which runs counter to my purpose of trying to use a relaxed writing style to alleviate the heaviness of the characters and themes. Finally, I will try my best to put forward new viewpoints to avoid re-flashing old ideas in new ways. For the sake of my sincere attitude, I hope Teacher Wan will be satisfied. (1) Single player players in team copies Anyone who has played MMOPRG games knows that the difficulty of clearing a team dungeon depends on the player attributes relative to the value of the dungeon BOSS, and the confrontation between teamwork and the dungeon mechanism. From the team's perspective, the equipment average, the level of command, and specifically for each player, the awareness of anticipation, and operating techniques are all indispensable. What if life is a dungeon that can only be cleared once? ——In the past, I often struggled with the fact that I couldn't save and reread life, and could only play it through once, otherwise it would be GG's point of view. When I thought of Wu Guizhou, I fell into extreme pessimism, and I felt so depressed that I also became desperate. It took a while to extricate myself. You can't blame me for being sentimental. In fact, this character reflects the reality of the individual far more than other characters, or even the story itself. However, it was not until recently that I suddenly realized something: the crux of the problem is that life is not a single-player game. It's just that the players in the dungeon didn't realize it. If you can't defeat the same BOSS at once, the worst thing you can do is take a break, upgrade your equipment, or wait until the dungeon coefficient is lowered before trying again. Trade time for space and defeat each one one by one. The dungeon can always be cleared. After clearing the level, there will be higher-end equipment, a wider map, a more mysterious plot line, and of course more difficult dungeons. Wu Guizhou's professional/sect attributes may be a little more special than other professional players, so the requirements for operating techniques are also different. At the same time, he comes with inherent debuffs. Of course, as a certain writer said, every unfortunate family has its own misfortune. Everyone is blessed by various buffs and debuffs from their original family since birth. It just so happened that Wu Guizhou wanted to be a high-level player and get ranking achievements, which doubled the difficulty of the process. I think one thing that needs to be clarified is that although Wu Guizhou may be special than others, this specialness has also become one of the important reasons that affect his perfect achievements in dungeon development, but it is not the decisive reason. A sister who is also a reader in the group once said that a well-known person who is good at spreading the chicken soup theory of life came to her campus to give a speech. When talking about how to alleviate the current hardship and pain, the time span should be extended to the entire life coordinate axis. In this way, the current situation is just a tiny wave in the long river of time (to the general idea). These words sound too idealistic and abstract. Not only my sister, but also me, for a long time, thought that this was nonsense. It obviously had no guiding significance and was just deceiving people. But now that I think about it, for most ordinary players who are starting a dungeon of wasteland, this is also the best solution that is most likely to preserve their own energy and maintain mental stability until they defeat the big BOSS. It's not nonsense, it's not self-paralysis, it's not just following the crowd. But I don't want to continue to expand. Of course Wu Guizhou has other models to refer to. For example, it may not be impossible to change to Chang Zheng's operating method. But discussing other possibilities for Wu Guizhou is like creating a parallel universe out of thin air and discussing whether he will eventually become a science fiction novelist. This is his end. The version environment he was in was extremely unfriendly to players like him and even exuded malice. He was severely hindered by the increase in debuffs at critical points in time. His output became more unstable after encountering the effects of debuffs. His deteriorating operating methods all made him disconnected from the team. The pioneering teammates who originally agreed to compete for rankings together got the achievement alone. It is indeed not Boss Chang's fault that he could not lead Wu Guizhou. From the scene map of this character, I can see the shadow of the past that Teacher Wan once mentioned. This made me feel a particularly profound connection with the real world when I read this article and this character. The lens polishing of certain scenes and the clips that pay homage to classics deepen the heavy tone of a certain fate. Readers like me, like Wu Guizhou, are just ordinary people in this world, so I can fully imagine and sympathize with what this character has experienced and endured. This is really the epitome of all the extreme problems that ordinary people cannot escape. The next chapter will discuss the various inevitabilities that lead to tragedy. I've also thought of a subtitle, and it's called "Accident has no place in tragedy."
I felt that I was not mature enough. When I saw Chang Zheng replying to brother Tao, "Not yet, I will work hard." I felt uncomfortable. I fully understood that Tao was the present and the future, and Wu was the past, and this past was too heavy to be easily forgotten. I also understood that there is no absolute fairness in love, but why was Tao Ran already letting go of his past and Chang Zheng still just "trying hard"? Chang Zheng's love is not fake, and it can also be seen that he is trying to say goodbye to the past. However, this love still makes me feel that there are impurities, like a lump in my throat. Maybe my experience is still at the stage where I only understand "fairy tale endings".
