My Idol Defies Science

To avoid being forcibly incorporated into the Jiuzhou Barrier, Shi Yixian is sent into the entertainment industry by her own master, in hopes of gaining some fans' faith to bolster her defenses.

But before she can even join a production, she's already put to work. The director says, "The paranormal footage, the actors sleepwalking, the props setting themselves on fire... Heavenly Master, you have to help us deal with this!"

As for your role, we can work something out...

Every day in the industry, she diligently hones her acting skills. But aren't there way too many unscientific things happening here?

The hottest stars, web-fiction greats, and up-and-coming actresses are all members of the demon race, and some have mysteriously vanished without a trace.

The agency's preferred plastic surgery clinic is run by a painted-skin demon, who personally handles the operations. We switch between real skin and fake skin.

She was only going to take part in a survival-themed educational reality show, but the crew chose an ancient battlefield where ghost soldiers march past, and her teammates have the nerve to eat offerings in an old shrine deep in the mountains.

Infant spirits, vengeful women, painted-skin demons...

Bronze mirrors, carved coffins, bone knives...

One unscientific incident after another comes her way, and behind it all, there seems to be a hidden hand at work.

"My career in entertainment sure is eventful," Shi Yixian says with a wry smile.

Still, hard work pays off. She can enjoy her fans' faith, collect her government employee stipend, and accumulate merit by slaying demons and vanquishing evil.

This job? Not a bad deal.
