Unfortunately, she was born to a mistress, so she was never destined to marry into a powerful family. Then her legitimate elder sister died suddenly, and Meng Yaohua took her place as the bride of her sister's fiance. Everyone envied her good fortune, saying she'd soared from a low branch to become a phoenix. Unfortunately, the emperor, her husband, was already deeply in love with her sister and couldn't be bothered to look at her. In the twelve years she spent in the palace, she was deposed and reinstated three times. By the time she died, she was still a virgin and had never once seen the emperor's face. Reborn, Meng Yaohua finally understood. Why waste her life pining after an impossible marriage? After being deposed for the first time, Meng Yaohua went to Luoyang, the eastern capital, to clear her head. On a spring outing, with apricot blossoms blowing all around, she caught sight of a graceful young man and fell for him at first glance. The young man played the flute beautifully, and she loved listening to him. As they spent more time together, they began an affair. They were sweet together, but neither ever spoke of marriage. Later, Meng Yaohua was reinstated as empress and returned to the palace. She considered her relationship with the young man a brief fling and didn't bother to say goodbye. Who could have guessed that the young man would wait for her, longing for her, for so long? When she opened that private room door again, he held her tightly from behind and buried his face in her pale neck, accusing her in a wounded voice: "Sister, are you going to abandon me?" It was enough to break anyone's heart. One day, at a palace banquet, she glimpsed a figure she recognized all too well. He wore the emperor's robes, standing tall and radiating the majesty of a ruler. He looked nothing like the delicate, frail young man she'd known. Their eyes met, and the world turned upside down! The beautiful young man she'd led on was the very emperor who had led her on in both her lives! Premise:
