(Merlin) Ten Commandments of Longing

First, it is best never to meet, so that we may never fall in love. Second, it is best never to know each other, so that we may never pine for each other. Third, it is best never to be together, so that we may never owe each other anything. Fourth, it is best never to cherish each other, so that we may never remember each other. Fifth, it is best never to love each other, so that we may never leave each other. Sixth, it is best never to face each other, so that we may never meet again. Seventh, it is best never to misunderstand each other, so that we may never let each other down. Eighth, it is best never to make promises to each other, so that we may never have to break them. Ninth, it is best never to depend on each other, so that we may never lean on each other. Tenth, it is best never to encounter each other, so that we may never come together. Yet once we met, we came to know each other. How could meeting compare to never having met? If only I could part from you forever, and be spared this longing through life and death. Theme:
