The Demon King Wants to Learn How to Be Human Again

[The previous blurb vanished into the void, so I'm terribly sorry! Written for my own amusement: two male leads from Blue Exorcist + a transmigration crossover]

During a life-or-death crisis, I was forced into a contract by the Lord of the Void. I thought I'd become a sacrifice, but all he asked was for me to teach him "how to be human."

As an exorcist, I was certain this was the most sophisticated disguise imaginable. I accompanied him as we transmigrated through time, from ancient shrines to burning battlefields, always ready for betrayal. But this Demon King only used his blue flames to warm sake, his presence to smooth out rumpled bedding, and sealed away his rule-defying power in the little chores of everyday life.

Until the truth came to light: this wasn't an invasion, but a heavy act of atonement. To break the cycle of reincarnation, he had once made a deal with a demon who ruled over memories, personally stripping away every memory of his humanity.

Now he sat upon the empty throne of the Void, though the reason he was protecting it had long since drifted away like smoke.

He found me not to learn, but to remember. His hesitation over the heat when frying an egg, the brief pause as he put away his blade: forgotten instincts were clumsily awakening. Each nearly perfect act of "being human" was a lonely rehearsal his body performed on its own, searching for the final piece of the puzzle of memory.

This is not a deception. It is the story of an older brother who pawned his past, quietly ironing the very idea of "being alive" back into a warm shape.

Theme: Make peace with yourself, then become yourself.
