An open letter to everyone waiting for updates:
1. This letter will be included with the new chapter as an explanation. I'm putting it here mainly for new readers!
I've been writing Dream of the Red Chamber fanfiction for years, not just a day or two. Three or four years have given me plenty of time to develop my own approach. But that also means losing some of the fun. Especially when I wanted to write a serious version of Lin Daiyu, for some reason, whether I had offended people or what, this story seemed to leave a lot of readers unhappy. Some people think that being a Daiyu fan or a fan of Daiyu gives them the right to say, "What you wrote isn't Lin Daiyu!" or, "You're a Xue Baochai fan, so don't touch our Lin Daiyu!" Such comments are both laughable and sad.
So here, Xiaomi would like to announce three things:
1. I'm not writing The Green Years of Pink Daiyu anymore! Just as, while writing The Road to the Clouds, I realized that it was hard to write Baochai without Lin Daiyu, it's also hard to create a good story with Lin Daiyu alone. That's why I've been so horribly stuck!
2. In the original work, Lin Daiyu and Xue Baochai are inseparable. They are a matched pair. But I insisted on taking a different path, and that was a mistake. Xiaomi admits that. Baoyu and Daiyu can't be separated! So the entire story will be revised!
3. The new book will be called A Grand Dream of the Red Chamber. What does that title mean? The story of the Red Chamber, whoever the original author may have been, has already been told in full. It has been told completely and in detail. I don't believe any of us can improve on the original, no matter how much we revise or adapt it. But what lies beyond the Red Chamber? The world can't consist of just one courtyard, with nothing but barren, illusory space all around it. The new story will explore the world outside the courtyard, as Xiaomi imagines it. There may be regrets, and there may be shortcomings, but there will be a better story!
4. Originally, I had decided to overwrite this entire work with revisions. But when I looked closely at what I'd written for The Green Years of Pink Daiyu, I found that I just couldn't let it go. So A Grand Dream of the Red Chamber will be launched as a new story! Thank you to everyone who has added this book to your favorites and supported it all this time! A Grand Dream of the Red Chamber is a work with a large male cast, close to serious literature. Xiaomi has researched a great deal of material for it, but there are still shortcomings. I hope you enjoy it!
