On some day in some month of the year 8384, the sea wind blew wildly, and even places far from the coast were always filled with a faint, fishy smell.
A typhoon raged in the middle of the night. A tsunami surged ashore, snow-covered mountains collapsed inland, and rivers burst their banks... When people awoke, all they saw was a scene like the apocalypse in a myth: water, water everywhere!
The floods brought plague with them. Struck by both, Earth's population soon dwindled to a tenth, or even a hundredth, of its original size.
Several months later, those who had struggled to survive finally built sturdy fortresses to withstand the extreme weather outside. But modern technology had been destroyed, and floods and earthquakes kept returning without warning. Everyone was sick and in constant danger. In those hollow eyes, there was little joy at having survived; worry and despair still filled them.
After enduring countless hardships, Xi Cun suddenly realized that much of her memory seemed to be gone. Yet whenever she felt dizzy, she saw scenes she had never witnessed before.
She reached out, seeming to catch a wisp of wind. In the salty sea breeze, there was an especially warm sensation that made her long to draw closer.
