The Empty Room

The walls in my home are white, clean, and tidy. My mom never lets me put posters on them. She says tape will leave marks.

One day, I put up a poster. A few days later, it fell down because the tape wouldn't hold. Standing in front of the wall, I peeled off the clear tape still stuck to it. Just as my mom had said, the white paint came off where the tape had been, leaving marks like scars.

But then I wondered: Is it really so terrible to have scars? Is it really so terrible to get hurt? So terrible that you'd rather have an empty room?
