How Did I, a Mere Bystander, Become the Protagonist?

Curiosity killed the cat, which is to say...

Li Yun, curious about dating sims, gets pulled into one!

He becomes Li Yuny i, the dating sim heroine's younger brother. Unlike his dazzling sister, surrounded by stars, he is gloomy, withdrawn, and has no friends.

Li Yuny i: "..."

But socializing really is a hassle. He'd rather keep hanging out with his 2D friends.

But after his sister finds someone, the game's other male leads are left heartbroken.

Then Li Yunyi shows up again with a new hairstyle, and his real appearance is finally revealed to everyone.

He looks about eighty percent like his beautiful sister, but with a handsome, distinctly masculine charm. In that moment, all his previous flaws fade into nothing.

Now the suitors who were heartbroken when his sister found someone have a new target.

Sure, they're not the same gender, but he's her brother. They're family, so they're basically the same person.

I'm going after him!

--

The sunny, energetic underclassman flashes his canines when he smiles. When he sees Li Yunyi stand up straight instead of hunching over, he has to tilt his head back to look up at him. Suddenly, the underclassman can't quite smile anymore...

Even after his sister finds someone, his stubborn, chuunibyou classmate refuses to give up. He grabs Li Yunyi and demands advice on how to win her over. Fed up, Li Yunyi makes an offhand remark: "My sister's taken. Instead of pestering her, why don't you try going after me?"

His dim-witted classmate's eyes suddenly light up.

Li Yunyi: "..." I was kidding. You know that, right?

When he starts university, Li Yunyi is dragged into a club without understanding what's going on, only to discover that his sister is in it too.

The club president has always looked after his sister, and now that Li Yunyi has joined, he takes great care of him too.

But Li Yunyi wants to say, "You really don't have to wipe my sweat, bring me water, or deliver breakfast. I can manage on my own."

Li Yunyi tries to recall memories that don't even exist, but no matter how hard he thinks, he can't understand why the perfectly normal dating sim male leads have suddenly turned around and started trying to win over him, the background character's little brother.

He's a side character, not the protagonist!
