Originally titled A Dream of Brocade in One Night, Watching the River Rise and Fall
Taken hostage at the age of five in a foreign land, he thought he would die. Thankfully, Heaven took pity on him and sent someone to save him, allowing his life to continue. He once thought that the day he could return home would never come, but hearing the familiar accent of his homeland filled his heart with joy. Yet once the echoes faded, he found the nation in turmoil and its people unable to make a living. He secretly swore that if he ever set foot on his native soil again, he would seize the throne, save the common people, and give them ample food and clothing, perhaps even wiping away the shame of having been held hostage. But by the time he returned, more than ten years had passed. He knew the truth: his life had been accompanied by his mother's death while she waited for him. Though alive, he was no more than a useless discarded pawn. He seemed to have fled to another country as a prince, but in truth, he had merely gone there as a hostage.
He surveys the world and looks down on the chaotic age. The chancellor boasts of being second only to the ruler and above all others, yet in the end, he cannot match a mere eunuch at the side of the sovereign who rules in these troubled times. People say that women should observe their proper duties, support their husbands, and raise their children, and that a harmonious family is already a blessing. This does not apply only to ordinary households; the imperial family is no different. In troubled times, when the people cannot make a living, support a worthy ruler and rally the world behind him. The seventh prince is not simple... What a great write-up!
