He softened at the sight of Gu Ran's tear-streaked face and was just about to make an unprecedented exception and let him go, when Gu Ran played a trick and stole his token. Without it, he had no protective magical artifact. Pei Fenglin was immediately struck by the backlash and became a target for evil spirits. Gu Ran watched the show, picking at his toes. "Sir, leave yourself a way out and you'll meet again someday. Regretting crossing me now, aren't you?" Pei Fenglin calmly locked their wrists together. "Sorry, but I'll use that little body of yours to help me withstand the evil spirits. My apologies." Gu Ran couldn't get away, so he simply stuck close to him and refused to leave. Gu Ran said to Pei Fenglin, "I want to be with you." Pei Fenglin refused. "There's someone I like." Gu Ran said, "Then how about this: promise me three lifetimes together in our next life. I want to be with you in all of them." Pei Fenglin was being pestered so relentlessly that he gave a perfunctory answer. "I'll promise you one lifetime in our next life. I'll save the other two for someone else." Unexpectedly, Gu Ran turned around and killed him with his own hands, then killed himself. When Pei Fenglin opened his eyes, he saw Gu Ran's face. The couple joins forces to exorcise demons and fight monsters. There's plenty of plot, but it's not scary. Sweet but not cloying, with lots of couple fluff.
