[Republican Era] My Friend

A Valentine's Day gift

My CP said they wanted to read a love story set in hell, where love grows wild and rampant in the face of death, so I wrote one.

Later... Well, not all that much time had passed, really, but so much had happened, enough to turn a person's life upside down completely. It was like that for both her and me. And suddenly, everything this story carried, and what it meant to the two of us, became heavy and full of pain.

So I want to step away from it and tell the story from the perspective of a powerless bystander.

Hu Jichen met a young man when he had just turned eighteen. He was two years older than the boy, and they both studied physics at the same university.

His boy was a very, very good person, with bright eyes, a gentle smile, and a quick tongue.

He entrusted all the love he had no way to express to his boy. The rest of his feelings, soaked by darkness and silence, melted like willow fluff in the drizzling Grain Rain of spring, scattering across the countless mountains and rivers between them.

A journey stretching a thousand miles, the place where you return, far away.

My friend, are you still well?

About war, promises, dignity, all the heavy, grief-stricken tragedies, and

love that treads on thin ice.

Though the nation is ruined, its mountains and rivers remain; in spring, the city is overgrown with grass and trees.
