"Strange Stories from a Chinese Studio" is a classic work by Pu Songling. It has been passed down to this day. Many people like the stories about ghosts and gods in it, and I am no exception. Among the ghost foxes, those with high moral standards will have unswerving aspirations; those with weak moral standards will succeed in succeeding. Many ghost foxes have tragic endings, either losing their souls or dying with hatred. For them, the road to adulthood is so rugged and dangerous. There are many eminent monks and sorcerers who subjugate demons. Following the principle that foxes are foxes and humans are humans, they severely block the ghost foxes' path to becoming immortals. However, the ghost foxes have been defeated and fought again and again, even if there are no bones left, they will not hesitate. People think that ghost foxes are such sympathetic characters, and those so-called Taoist monks who subjugate demons are so nosy and cold-blooded. Despite this, people still stay away from ghost foxes. They are afraid of their stubbornness, insidiousness, and willingness to do anything in pursuit. The pursuit of ghost foxes is no longer a desire that can be easily given up, but it seems that there is this unknown force controlling them. The unknown desire to become an adult or become an immortal gradually gathered into a blind and terrifying pursuit. In their hearts, there is such a belief: to become a real person. Herringbone is a luxury. So, it's either tempting or frightening; it's seducing people, or it's killing them; it's either showing them affection, or it's killing them violently. Then, the ghost foxes were able to put on human clothes, taste the sufferings of the world, and experience birth, old age, illness, and death without any regrets. But people living in the mortal world go through great hardships in order to obtain the immortality abandoned by the ghost fox. In order to obtain the superb magic power that ghost foxes disdain, they will not hesitate to go to the mountains of swords or the frying pan. Sometimes I feel that if the two could have reversed their roles from the beginning, there might not be unnecessary tragedy. In fact, even if their roles were reversed, the result would be the same because both would be chasing the other's role. In a real society without ghost foxes, people have the same pursuit. As long as there is no absolute equality between people, this pursuit will be endless. The common people who live a happy life hope that one day they will be promoted and paid more. But those in high and powerful positions long for ordinary days deep in their hearts. Therefore, between the two, there is a cycle of ideological pursuit. Once the poor become rich, they will miss the life of the poor; if the rich unfortunately become poor, they will naturally miss the life of the rich. Of course, there was a hard chase and even painful tragedy before that. In fact, this senseless pursuit does not only exist between two people with obvious gaps like the poor and the rich. People always have this concept: other people's things are always better than their own. Even if there are two identical things, in one person's opinion, the other's will be better. So there is a kind of person who always wants to get other people's things, even personalities. In their search, they lose sight of their original selves. They regard the advantages of others as rare advantages, but blindly obliterate their own highlights. One day, when they truly become another person, they may only ask the diary of the past: Stranger, who are you? Just like the ghosts and foxes in "Strange Stories from a Chinese Studio", the low hand in pursuit is the master in forgetting. If ghost foxes could just be the ghost foxes who live like duckweeds, and people could just be ordinary or even mediocre people, the world would certainly be a little more peaceful. But the cessation of pursuit, the so-called peace, will not only make the world less attractive stories, but also lose the brilliance of progress. In reality, it should be the same. Read "Liao Zhai" again and get some thoughts. Don't lament the revenge of ghosts, foxes and monsters, don't lament the harshness of the world, don't discuss what is right and wrong between humans and monsters.
