Villainous Second Male Lead, Please Take the Lead

Jiang Can awakened to the truth: she was living inside a melodramatic romance novel, as the unfortunate heroine who gets emotionally and physically abused by the male lead.

Jiang Can reviewed the plot. It had reached the point where she'd successfully proposed to the male lead, just as his first love returned from abroad. He stood her up for his first love, and what came next was a string of absurd plot twists: the heroine gets jealous and is hit, runs away from home and is dragged back for a wall-pinning romance, gets pregnant and miscarries, and so on. In the end, she loses all hope, runs away while pregnant, and struggles to raise a set of twins on her own.

Then, bam, the timeline jumps three years ahead. The leads reunite, and the secretary points at the male lead, who's lost three pounds, and says tearfully, “Madam, the young master hasn't had a good night's sleep in three years since you left. Please come back!” Then the two adorable little tykes rush into the male lead's arms, their eyes sparkling. “Are you our daddy?” The heroine's heart softens, and they live happily ever after.

Jiang Can: To hell with that! Anyone who wants this ridiculous plot can have it. I'm out!

She turned her attention to the male lead's sworn enemy, Pei Zhuo, the devoted villainous second male lead in the story. He grew up with the heroine and would do anything for her, but a childhood friend could never beat the new guy. The male lead bankrupts him when he saves the heroine, and in the end, utterly broken, he dies a miserable death.

Jiang Can: No! You're a good second male lead. Come on, you're taking the lead now.

But then she suddenly remembered that, according to the plot, a week ago she'd tried to prove her loyalty to the male lead and... broken things off with Pei Zhuo!

Jiang Can: “What if I told you I liked you? Would you believe me?”

Pei Zhuo gave a dry laugh. “Tell me, what are you trying to use me for this time?”

Jiang Can: “...”

She finally understood why she had never fallen for Pei Zhuo all these years: can someone get this sharp-tongued jerk out of here!
