The Path to Immortality

"Why would you fall for a scholar, Sister?" she asked her sister in confusion. Her sister had only smiled faintly and shaken her head in silence.

It wasn't until later, when she met a man, that she understood what her sister meant.

Love has no answer.

She was only a naive little spirit from the mortal realm, but she met the emperor of the human world, and one glance bound her heart for a thousand years.

She entered the palace hoping to stay with him forever, never knowing that being at the emperor's side was like being beside a tiger. She couldn't see through the schemes within the palace walls, and she nearly died at their hands again and again.

Until her heart was thoroughly broken and her love was gone.

It turned out the emperor of the human world knew no love.

Heartless, loveless, emotionless, she raised her voice to the heavens and finally stopped holding back. She shattered the restrictions, saw through her trial of love, and attained immortality on the spot.

Later, when she saw her sister again, she understood.

Her sister had been trying to tell her all along:

Love is nothing but an illusion.
