Gu Chi was born into a family of movie stars. The most important task in his life was to negotiate with various movie stars for the basic right to survive.
At four, wanting to trick someone into giving him money for a toy, he went home and yelled, "Dad, kindergarten needs money for toys!"
The veteran movie star looked troubled. "I haven't been paid this month either. Your little brother wants a toy, so let's sell your big brother and buy him a Batman."
He burst into tears. "Don't sell Big Brother! I don't want anything!"
At six, he wanted to go out and play, so he ran to his big brother and said, "Big Brother, I'm getting moldy. I need to go outside and dry off."
The highly talented acting student from the Central Academy of Drama looked worried. "What should we do? Mold is a sign you're about to break out in sores all over, and then flies and mice will come bite you. Why don't we put you in the washing machine and give you a spin? That should wash it off."
He burst into tears. "I don't want to go out and play anymore."
At twenty, he texted the movie star next door: "Brother Chu, another guy in my class gave me a love letter. It's such a pain."
The movie star next door, inwardly roaring, "Who wrote it? Come here! I promise I won't beat you to death!" maintained a cool, haughty expression. "Don't trust men who write love letters. A man who can write a love letter to confess his feelings is a born flirt. He'll fall in love with at least ten people in his life and write love letters to five, regardless of gender. He only cares about looks."
He tossed the letter aside. "I don't want to be one of those ten."
