Thanks to the TV series Don’t Cry at Seventeen, which I watched as a child, I came to know the calm and sensible Jian Ning, the upright and fiery Yang Yuling, the sweet and kind Le Xin... and my own seventeen-year-old self. Do we all have a Jian Ning around us, so outstanding that you can’t look away? A Yang Yuling, whom you both love and loathe? A Le Xin, one of those friends who would go to the ends of the earth for you? I don’t want them to simply drift apart and go their separate ways. I hope youth never fades and friendship never dies.
I also want to give them a realistic ending, letting them stay by our side and grow up together.
After reading so many fanfics based on TV shows and anime, I decided to write one myself to commemorate Don’t Cry at Seventeen, a show I once followed. I’ll bring together two dramas I loved, using Janet, a supporting character from Detective Investigation Files, a Hong Kong drama I’ve followed in recent years.
