He knew that the moment he gave his heart away would be the moment of his death, yet he couldn't pull himself free. Imperial textbooks put it this way: The genetically modified are gods, the mechanically modified are tools, and natural-born people who have undergone no modifications are no better than livestock. Tan Wenjiu was an "oddity" among the nobility. He refused genetic modification and wanted to remain a purebred natural-born man. With a bewitching manner and a silver tongue, he worked his way among the beds of the powerful, mocked as "a worthless toy for thousands to use and abuse." But they didn't know that beneath the playboy facade, this "worthless toy" concealed an ambition capable of toppling the entire empire. On the day Tan Wenjiu led the Freedom Army in breaching the Central Dynasty's fortress, the Couthis Dynasty, which had ruled Blue Star with an iron fist for nearly a thousand years, finally collapsed.
