Across the Clouds (GL)

An unusual case of a dumped body brings Ye Yuchu into a hurried encounter with a woman drenched from head to toe. She says her name is Ji Yundu. A hospital catches fire, a body disappears, and the killer vanishes without a trace. The primeval forest is full of deadly threats. Ye Yuchu fights with all her might and escapes death, but seems to have become entangled with "gods and ghosts." Before one case can be solved, another begins. The two of them set off for ancient villages in western Hunan, mountain temples in the Qinling Mountains, a ghost city at the gorge pass, caves in western Guangxi, glaciers on the snowy plains... Their travels take them across the country. Only when they are utterly exhausted, body and soul, do they realize that the layers of mysteries are all connected, and death follows like a shadow, leaving them nowhere to run. As they unravel the clues and dig deeper at every step, ancient legends, scattered memories, greedy desires, fragile hearts, secrets buried for a thousand years, and a love enduring in stubborn silence will finally come to light. But when the truth is revealed, can they, after all they have suffered, ever be whole again? They embark on a passionate tryst and dream a dream that will not end for a thousand years. At the story's end, will they remain forever separated by the clouds, or disappear together into the southern mountains?
