The Mockingbird

Complete, but I changed the status to "On Hiatus" because I don't want it to get a completion rating. Ever since she was very little, Hailey had noticed a mockingbird often perched outside her window. The little bird's feathers were drab gray, glossy but not particularly pretty, yet it sang beautifully and was still utterly endearing. She thought God was fair, more or less, at least. He hadn't given her a father, so he'd given her this mockingbird instead. Until one day, to be precise, on her eighth birthday, the little bird didn't come. Instead, a stranger showed up in her garden, a man with a very warm smile... If you want, Daddy will get you a mockingbird I'll give you everything in the world I'll give you a diamond ring that shines I'll sing for you And work hard to give you everything All just to make you smile And if the bird won't sing and the ring won't shine I'll kill that mockingbird I'll find the jeweler who sold the diamond And make him swallow every carat Tell him, don't mess with your dad Another bit of daydreaming after listening to Eminem's "Mockingbird." It's so touching. My own translation of the lyrics just can't capture the feeling of the original English. I think a father's love for his daughter is the same everywhere in the world. He just has to watch his little girl get led away one day by some good-for-nothing guy, even though he's the man who loves her most in the world... Haha, that last line was just a joke.
