She was a wanderer from a foreign land, stopping only briefly in the place where this story takes place to earn enough money for a decent journey onward.
She was born in this country, yet spoke with a foreigner's accent, never quite fitting in.
Her roots lay on the other side of the continent, yet she was a noble young lady who spoke only Mandarin, adrift and without a home.
She was called Heartless, so she watched the tangled story unfold with cool indifference. She only cared so much about that little one because, like her, he didn't like to talk, yet he always had to go out of his way to make up for other people's slowness.
But when she cleared away the threats to others without hesitation, she knew something had changed after all.
A little more feeling. Neither good nor bad.
A few points need to be made clear:
First, although this is an HP fanfic, it doesn't have much to do with the original protagonists or plot. At least, the female lead doesn't change the course of other people's lives much. Apart from little Teddy, most characters only appear now and then. The story will have a fairly happy ending, and the dead won't stay dead, but I won't spend a lot of words explaining it all.
Second, although male pregnancy is one of the potential squicks, it's mainly there to show off the female lead's awesomeness, and it's indispensable. Dan Dan won't tell you how the baby was conceived, and there are no pregnant men in this story.
Finally, this story has a literary, gentle style. Every now and then Dan Dan's goofy nature will show through, but there won't be any especially dramatic twists and turns.
At first, Dan Dan was just imagining what Hogwarts would be like if it were in America. In the end, it became a story about how an oddball family changes against a multicultural backdrop. Heartless, or Wu Xin, really means a person without roots. If you have no home to return to, then you're a stranger everywhere in the world.
All characters belong to J.K. Rowling. Dan Dan is just writing for fun.
