The idea came from Mr. Dan Dan's Melancholy, who dreamed up this unusual premise out of envy and jealousy because he couldn't get any coffee. Dan Dan promised to write it for him.
Here is the unusual premise: A girl has the most beautiful singing voice on Earth, but she can only sing when she has a cold, so she struggles to balance her health and her career.
In my opinion, Mr. Melancholy is a much better writer than Dan Dan, but he doesn't know Chinese. In Dan Dan's hands, the premise could only mutate in all sorts of ways.
Since it's hard to define what "the most beautiful" means, the girl became the only person on Earth who can sing. Singing also involves vocal cords and other physiological structures, so I had to set the story in an imaginary future. That gave this half-baked science student plenty more to ramble about.
As Dan Dan kept mulling things over, she found herself single again, and then a romance plot appeared too. The ending somehow turned into an inspirational one. Mr. Melancholy always thought this was a joke, but Dan Dan finished writing it anyway, just as a keepsake.
The heroine is a mild-tempered girl with few ambitions. The doctor and the director team up to raise her like a child: they think her innocence is lovely, but also worry that she won't manage in the world because she knows so little about it.
