The Seven Lives, Seven Lifetimes series.
Before reincarnation, Yi Ji Huasan was a little lotus in a lotus pond. Ming Jing was carefree by nature and enjoyed playing among mortals. The Buddha believed he was too attached to the mortal world and unable to let go of desire, so he was banished to the lotus pond to reflect in solitude.
While still a little lotus, Yi Ji Huasan quietly fell for the banished deity who smiled gently by the pond every day, even before she had the ability to take human form. They spent every day together.
Yi Ji Huasan went to the Buddha and asked him to make a pact for seven lifetimes: if Ming Jing still had not fallen in love with her after seven lives, Yi Ji Huasan would return to the Buddha, remain a lotus for all eternity, and give up all desire for mortal life.
The Buddha hoped this would make them both give up their attachment to the human world and mortal love, so he agreed.
The Calamity of Reincarnation is made up of seven stories: Obsession, Wandering Soul, No Demon, Dance of Abstinence, Stillness, Forgotten Years, and Lotus Guardian.
