The Legend of Qin Fanfic: Ink Plum (Pure White Sky, Part Two)

That day, I asked you what would happen if a plum blossom were snapped in half and placed in a vase. You said the person who loved plum blossoms would feel heartbroken.

But I didn't finish asking.

If a plum blossom stood proudly against snow and frost all its life, only to crumble into mud one night before the eyes of the person who loved it, ground into dust beneath the wheels, how would they feel?

The plum blossom's enduring renown has nothing to do with how long it blooms. It simply happens to embody the purity that people admire.

Detached, refined, serene, and elegant, it embodies the ideal of a noble gentleman. But if one day it stains its good name, all that awaits it is a chorus of scorn.

I have never liked wintersweet. Its red or white hues are too pure, too idealistic.

I think only the ink plum is truly elegant. Even when covered in black mud and scorned by others, it feels no anger or resentment, and quietly keeps its head held high toward the sky.
