Fluttering Like a Butterfly, Dazzling Like a Dream

A Farewell My Concubine fanfiction.

The story begins in 1947, against the backdrop of Japan's surrender in 1945. Duan Xiaolou gets Ju Xian to miscarry while trying to save Cheng Dieyi, then breaks with Dieyi.

Xiao Pingzi is a young performer at the opera troupe where Dieyi works. An admirer of Dieyi, he crosses paths with him several times, giving him the chance to witness firsthand how Dieyi passes the days after his falling-out with Xiaolou, what upheavals he goes through after the liberation, and what he experiences during the turmoil.

The story is largely faithful to the movie, with some parts following the original novel. The original story won't be changed in any major way, and the ending certainly won't be reversed. There are no wild, meaningless fantasies about things that could never happen.

No pairing, a short-to-medium-length story.

Xiao Pingzi is merely a character who serves as a narrative thread and has no impact on the overall story. I simply want to do my best to recreate, in my imagination, Dieyi's dreamlike life, so I chose the perspective of an observer.
