After Zhao Han is caught in an unfortunate explosion, she transmigrates into the wife of the second branch of the Wang family, Zhao Zhihan, a character never mentioned in the original Dream of the Red Chamber. She has a mother-in-law who stays out of everything: she ignores her son, her daughter-in-law, and the household, spending her days praying and fasting until everyone calls her the Old Buddha. Then there are two sisters-in-law who trade barbs, openly and behind her back, with every trick in the book. And her husband, Wang Ziteng, whose official career keeps rising, is a chauvinist deeply poisoned by feudal ideas.
Zhao Zhihan shrugs: As an outsider, I won't fight or compete. But if you really think I can't fight back, you're far too naive. So she puts on a show of her own, taking on household battles after transmigrating and bringing scumbags to heel.
Once she's gone from daughter-in-law to wealthy matriarch, can the comfortable life of an official's wife really be far away?
[Announcement] I've finally made it from daughter-in-law to mother-in-law. My editor says I can start charging for the novel on Sunday (September 7, 2014), with three chapters that day.
