Together Through Life and Death

Blurb: In Republican-era Tianjin, society is in turmoil. The Chu family, by the Hai River, is wiped out after offending the police chief. With nowhere else to turn, Chu Weiran joins the army of the powerful warlord Cheng Junshan. Fair-skinned and delicate, Chu Weiran becomes Cheng Junshan's adjutant. What does an adjutant do? Pass documents to the general? Protect his life? Wrong, wrong. Every day, Chu Weiran's job is to buy rouge and face powder for the First Concubine, accompany the Second Concubine to operas, escort the Third Concubine to dance at nightclubs, and steer clear of the concubines' schemes. At last, one day, Chu Weiran can't take it anymore. "Cheng Junshan, you already have all these wives, so why the hell are you still bothering me?" Cheng Junshan grins brightly. "Deputy Chu? Where are you big? I don't see it." I promise I won't abandon this story, and it has a happy ending. A short, feel-good story. Theme:
